Wild Goose

I bought a sailboat, it’s a 22 foot Jedda, built by Ossie Whitley between 1968-1984.

The boat needs some work done to it before it can be sailed. The major issue is that the mast fell over while it was sailing and has damaged the fibreglass at the base of where the mast sits.

Upon further inspection there is a beam of wood encased with fibreglass that runs from one side of the boat to the other, the mast base screws into this beam. The plywood inside this beam has become saturated with water and so has become rotten. You can see this in the photos I have attached to this post.

I used a chisel and a mallet to remove the bottom layer of fibreglass from within the cabin, and then removed the rotten plywood. Once this has been cleaned out and dried sufficiently I will replace the plywood beam and seal it in fibreglass.
