Sometimes I regret choosing to stay in Victoria when the borders closed. If I want to go back now I will need to isolate for two weeks. Normally this wouldn’t be a problem, I had no issues sitting at home for two weeks living off Uber Eats and playing video games. However, I share an apartment with another person so I would need to stay in a hotel at great expense, and would not have access to my massive gaming rig. (Maybe I should have opted for a gaming laptop instead of a Chromebook)
It’s not all bad though, I can still work on my boat “Wild Goose”. This has given me plenty to do to pass the time and is a great learning opportunity.
The marina I am staying at is called Yaringa, it is situated on the mornington peninsula at the north west of Westernport bay. According to the old guy in the boat next to me, he weather here is unpredictable and one should not trust the forecasts. There have been plenty of beautiful sunny days and calm days then rain with strong winds the next minute.
I am renting a 40 foot shipping container which I am using as a workshop and a temporary storage area for everything inside the boat as I clean it out and repair it. On the sunny days the container warms up, after the stage 4 lockdown hit I decided to purchase a portable car fridge, which I will later use in the boat. This means I do not have to make as many trips into town as before.
For cooking I have a small gas stove from the boat and a kerosene heater which is large enough to put a frying pan on and slowly cook food.
Working on bits and pieces of Wild Goose while I wait for some more fibreglass supplies to arrive so I can bog in the replacement beam.
Doing a lot of cleaning, attached you will find a photo of the old engine bay. The photo is looking down below the cockpit. The hatch covering this has rotted away and I am planning to fibreglass over the top of it. It can be accessed from inside the cabin so I think it will be a good place to put my fridge.
